Ghost Bear of the B.C. Rainforest

THE KERMODE BEAR

Kermode Bear

The Kermode bear is actually a white variety of black bear found in several small, isolated pockets of more or less coastal habitats in the upper west-central region of British Columbia, Canada.

Hunting them is strictly prohibited. Their numbers are uncertain, but we know they are not abundant. Kermode's are so elusive and seldom seen that the Native people refer to these white phantoms of the rain forest as "ghost bears".

Sue Coleman has painted several other images of the "Ghost Bears". She has also compiled a few interesting and informative facts.
