I have many very old Smithsonian Institute books published in the early 1900s. In one of them, " Ethnology of the Kwakiutl", there is a vocabulary listing. Qwa'qwane is the Kwakiutl translation for heron.
When the Raven was conceived his mother feared that her brother would kill her child in a fit of jealousy, so she asked the Heron to raise her child and keep him safe until he was a young man and able to take care of himself.
